Why Intermittent Fasting? 

Let's be honest, you probably just want to look better naked and you heard fasting was the way to go? If your goal is weight loss or a leaner build in general, it’s true that IF can be just what you need to succeed or break through a plateau. It works incredibly well for weight loss and cutting. So much so that some bodybuilders have used it to completely cut out cardio for contest preps in some cases! When used correctly it can be a very powerful tool.

My hopes are by the end of this challenge that you truly understand how to implement it into your life whenever you want to utilize its affects. Not only that, but you will know exactly how to do it, when to do it, for how long to do it, and what your body feels like in each phase of the protocol.

1. Better Metabolism

Intermittent fasting trains your mind and digestive system to get used to eating what you need for the day in a smaller window of time.This promotes a healthy and proportional intake of food and calories. People who get used to fasting learn to only eat when hungry, not according to pre-established mealtimes or impulsive and mindless eating. When done the right way, fasting actually helps improve metabolism and promote metabolic flexibility where your body has the machinery to use glucose or fats effectively for energy, making us all leaner and sexier ;)

2. Better Hormones

When you fast, several things happen in your body on the cellular level. For example, your body adjusts hormone levels to make stored body fat more accessible. Your cells also initiate important repair processes and change the expression of genes. Here are some changes that occur in your body when you fast:

Human Growth Hormone (HGH): The levels of growth hormone skyrocket, increasing as much as 5 times. This has huge benefits on fat loss and muscle gain.

Insulin: Insulin sensitivity improves and levels of insulin drop dramatically. Lower insulin levels make stored body fat more accessible.

Insulin is the key fat storage hormone in our bodies, it's like the 'gate keeper' to your body's fat stores. If insulin is high, you can't burn fat.Every time you eat, your body's insulin increases and glycogen is provided as your body's preferred energy source. Excess glycogen is then stored in other places of your body, like your liver. When the liver runs out of storage, though, it begins to transform that excess glycogen into fat. When you fast, you stop giving your body that steady stream of glucose, allowing insulin to lower. Then, your body begins breaking down that stored glycogen to use as fuel. After depleting glycogen stores, your body seeks out alternative sources of energy - stored body fat!

 

3. Better Wind & Endurance

Athletes build and maintain their “wind” by running and doing other cardio training exercises. With IF you can naturally increase your VO2 just by skipping breakfast! Several studies have show significant increases in VO2 max on fasted athletes versus athletes who ate breakfast an hour before the test. Imagine that, just eating differently can make you a better endurance athlete? Pretty awesome stuff.

Intermittent Fasting & Bodybuilding:

Many people find they feel better and train better on IF. One of the best and often-mentioned benefits is less hunger. Even though you delay eating, you eat one or two bigger meals compared to eating 2000-3000 calories spread out in 5 to 6 meals during the day. Bodybuilders find they’re more satisfied with those bigger meals.

People who choose an intermitting fasting style of eating instead of a traditional 'diet' plan, often report feeling less hungry, having more energy, better sleep patterns clear skin, less cravings and a significant decrease in body fat! They also tend to say that it's much easier to follow and stick with long-term.

True, there are an overwhelming number of fasting diet protocols being promoted on the internet right now.
